Voting Rights Act - Section 2 gutted
On April 29, 2026, the Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in Louisiana v. Callais, effectively gutting Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) by severely weakening protections against racial gerrymandering and discriminatory voting maps. The decision mandates a higher burden of proof for voting discrimination, making it harder to challenge maps.
